Juried Review Process Fact Sheet Initial Review by Project Staff The first phase of review is an initial screening by Universal Design for Instruction (UDI) project staff. This screening focuses on two main components: 1) Is the product relevant to postsecondary instruction? and 2) Has the author completed all requirements outlined in the Product Submission Checklist? If the product meets both portions of this screening, it is posted to a password-protected area of the project web site, and undergoes two rounds of an electronic juried review process. Review by the Universal Design for Instruction Editorial Board Members of the UDI Editorial Board rate the product on a five-point Likert scale to determine how well it reflects each of the nine Principles of UDI. In addition, reviewers provide specific qualitative feedback related to strengths and suggestions pertaining to each principle. Review by Field Reviewers Concurrently, a panel of field reviewers consisting of faculty from a variety of academic disciplines at over 15 postsecondary institutions nationwide who have participated in training for the review process rate the overall Quality and Usability of the product on a five-point Likert scale. Reviewers provide qualitative feedback related to strengths and suggestions about the product. General Points Submission of a product and completion of the Author Permission Form serve as authorization for project staff to place the product into all steps of the screening and juried review process, and, if the product is accepted, authorization to post the product and relevant reviewer comments on the project web site.

Products that meet the established criteria of 3.0 or higher (on a 5.0 scale) for UDI and Quality and Usability are posted on the project web site for broad dissemination. If a product does not meet established criteria the author will be notified by project staff. The product will not be returned.
